The first Castle Fan Awards opened on June 13, 2011. There were 90 entries submitted in Fan Fiction, Graphics, Art and Video before nominations closed on the 27th.
Finalists from each category were chosen by a panel of judges and announced on July 4th, voting by the public was open for 2 weeks and winners were announced on July 29, 2011.
